What’s the Best Way to Propose?

Getting engaged is amazing. Preparing to propose takes a bit of planning to pull off the
perfect Surprise!! Oh yes it should definitely be a surprise. The next 5 days we’ll be sharing
10 tips for proposing. There is no one way to propose, these are just simple but important
tips to get ya on the right path…Don’t want to wait each day for our full list visit our website
and read our blog for the full list and more. Good luck and we hope to see you for the “I
Do’s”:

  • Don’t Guess at Preferences: Is your honeybun a private, shy person or are they outgoing and love to share everything with the world kind of person. Before you propose make sure you know if your love would like all the attention of a public proposal.
  • Do Plan a Guest List: If you’re going to make a public proposal plan the guest list carefully. Which friends and family absolutely must be there and who can you not tell? Let’s be honest, some folks will spill the tea. Are you going to surprise everyone with an invite to a dinner party that turns into an engagement party? If you are doing something private with just the two of you and maybe a few close loved ones who will help you set up the space or get your significant other to the proposal location.
  • Do Keep it a Surprise: As venue owner I am in many groups with “brides to be” and fellas the ladies sometimes figure it out hehe. Let’s call it women’s intuition or sometimes we “accidentally” or not so accidentally find the ring in a drawer or the car glove box. It can be hard to hold it or to hide your plans but do your best. Hopefully you’ve talked about your future as a couple and getting married before you pop the question but try not to be obvious about when you actually plan to propose. This may mean that you have to keep your proposal plan from people who may slip the secret to your partner. Get help from professional planners like those at BlueSky Events Studio to keep even your partner’s closest friends out of the know.
  • Do Know the Answer: We can’t emphasize this enough. Talk to your partner about marriage before you even buy a ring. Is marriage important to them, is that something they want, are they ready to marry you? I’ve heard some sad stories of proposal gone wrong because the partner was not interested in marriage or were no longer interested in the relationship. Be certain that your partner will say “Yes” before proposing.
  • Don’t Try to Trick Your Partner: As I said before our intuition sometimes tells us the big question is coming so don’t try to switch things up or trick us when you are ready to propose. Don’t give us a fake big gift or pretend you’re not proposing but then propose our hearts can’t take it.
  • Do Make Sure Your Partner Is Looking Their Best: If you know you are ready to propose soon maybe suggest a date night of mani/pedis so when you slip the ring on their finger it looks beautiful next to their perfectly done nails. Lol and before you snap photos make sure their hands are moisturized and hair is looking nice. proposal doesn’t have to be elaborate, but it’s important that you make it special and memorable. Whether the proposal is private or in front of friends and family, be sure to make it personal. This is where you can get creative!
  • Don’t Be a Copycat: It can be hard coming up with a unique or special proposal, but you don’t have to copy anyone else. We can help you come up with something unique for you and your honeyboo. The more you personalize the moment the more special and memorable it will be for the both of you.
  • Do Plan Ahead: Always make sure that you have a solid plan in place for your proposal and be mindful of your partner’s schedule. Leave adequate time to get ready and finish up any tasks that need to be completed so nothing impedes the proposal. If you are scheduling vendors like catering or musicians, consider their arrival and setup time as well.
  • Do Know Their Ring Size (if possible!): You want the ring to fit like a glove. Know your partner’s ring size before purchasing the ring, if you can borrow a ring, they wear frequently that can be taken to a jeweler to be sized. Don’t worry if that’s not an option ring size can always be adjusted after the proposal!
  • Don’t Go Crazy: Getting engaged is a fun and exciting time so don’t stress yourself out trying to handle it all on your own. Make it special, make it romantic, and don’t be afraid to let the experts guide you through the process. Don’t forget to breathe and enjoy the next part of the journey with your love.
